Tempus Fugit

Talk about a senior moment (or week or month or year). It just occurred to me (doh!) that only three days (counting today) remain in 2005.

Where the heck did the year go? Did we buy this house a year ago? If we’ve been here a year why do we still have boxes left to unpack in the garage? Why are some walls still bare?

Time, they say, flies when you’re having fun. We must be having a ball because 2005 went by in a blur. Hell, I haven’t even made New Year’s Resolutions yet. Maybe I’ll bypass that tradition this year. Saves time if you don’t have resolutions to break.

A year ago this house stood mostly bare, windows open to let the new hardwood floors dry out and the smell of polyurethane dissipate. Now rooms overflow with stuff.

My studio looks like the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I was going to use the week between Christmas and New Years to clean it but here it is Thursday and I haven’t set foot in there all week.

So it’s time to buckle down and tackle all those jobs that have piled up over the past year.

Which I’m going to do.

Right after a nap.

Thanks Doug, I was looking for a New Year’s resolution that had a prayer of surviving past the 2nd of January. You have saved the day. I’ll let you know how it goes. New Year’s Resolution # 1 for 2006:

    Take more naps!

    Hi Doug,
I think there is a collective sense of being overwhelmed and out of time right now, at least I feel it too.

Even so, I just got caught up with your Captiol Hill Blue commentaries (rants) and just wanted to say Thank you for writing them and reporting the cutting edge stuff.

In living up to your potential, which you appear to do rather well in C.H.B., resolutions aren’t needed. Resolutions only give room for failure anyway:). You’re a winner in my book! Liked your rant today, I shared it with many. Thanks for being the voice of truth out here.

I agree that you are following the correct sequence of actions.

Nap first – Then tackle the backlog. You will need a clear head for the task!

    Good luck!

    Hi Dave,

I’ll be arriving at my new home in Willis, from Oakland, CA in about a month with Lots of Smart Vaults (thanks to D.St. L) and figure I should be able to get everything uppacked in less time then it took me to get it all packed up. But I love naps and my retirement vow was to take more of them. So I guess that the vaults will get emptied but the boxes may sit in the garage for a bit.
