Drivers beware: There’s a pothole out there just waiting for the chance to destroy a tire, break or suspension or — at the very least — knock your front end out of line.

The winter of extremes left us with a plethora of potholes: Some large enough to qualify for statehood or their own zip code.

If you find a pothole (and finding one ain’t all that hard), go online and report the monster to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Don’t be alarmed if it takes a while.  VDOT is stretched to the limit and beyond but the sooner you get the pothole in the system the sooner it will get filled. The agency filled 43,000 potholes in a recent two-week blitz.

A special note to fellow motorcyclists: Be careful out there. There are too many potholes that can bring down an unwary rider.
