Peaceful, easy feeling

Wednesday’s orange sunset lit up the sky, heightening a peaceful, easy feeling.

The muted rumble of the Harley’s exhausts punctuated the twilight.

A good evening to ride, a fitting end to another excellent day.

No din of politics to break the mood, no backdrop of evening news to depress the soul — just the backdrop of Mother Nature’s beauty to remind us that life — when correctly viewed — can and should be good.

I ride into the evening at peace with life, with God and with myself.

  1. Great photo and thoughts Doug. I’ve noticed your writing of late has taken a more peaceful tone. Obviously, you are a man at peace with himself and his surroundings. I envy you.

  2. Allow me to echo Darlene’s thoughts Doug. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Floyd Country Store earlier this year. As I long-time reader of your blog I expected some sort of fire-breathing iconoclast but was amazed to discover you were a soft-spoken, gentle man with a self-depreciating sense of humor and a twinkle in your eye. You appeared to be so comfortable with yourself and, as my daughter would say “with it.” Your love of your wife, your family and your community came through loud and clear. During our drive home, my husband commented that you were entirely different from what we expected. It is good to see that part of your personality emerging lately in your writing. Keep up the good work.
