Damn, I hate getting things wrong.
On Monday, Roanoke Times columnist Dan Casey emailed to ask if I had heard about a paving scam currently preying on Floyd County residents. One of the paving companies involved is B&B Paving of Christiansburg.
I was out of the county visiting my mother at her assisted living facility and emailed back via my Droid phone that a story had appeared in The Floyd Press a couple of weeks ago and directed him to Chief Investigator Jeff Dalton at the sheriff’s department.
In the email, typed quickly on my phone while sitting on my parked motorcycle, I said I thought the paving company had done some good work in some jobs in the county.
But I confused B&B Paving with S&S Paving, a good company with a solid reputation in the county and elsewhere in Southwestern Virginia.
Dan used my comment in his column in Tuesday’s times and my email and voice mail lit up with calls from those saying they had never had a good experience with B&B. Someone from S&S also called and said they were being confused with B&B.
My mistake. I’ve had my head up my ass since Saturday when a good friend died from injuries from a motorcycle crash with a deer six days earlier. The funeral for Kevin Spangler is today in Buchanan and I’m headed there this morning to ride in a motorcycle procession in his honor.
My apologies to readers, to Dan and to S&S. My mind wasn’t working Monday.
S&S is a good paving company. B&B, from all reports, is not.
