That's Floyd County basketball

Anyone who follows Floyd County High School girls' basketball knows they play an aggressive, in-your-face, rough and tumble game that rolls over opponents.

After an uncharacteristic 0-2 start, due in large part to an injury to team leader Lindsey Thompson, the girls' varsity team now appears on its annual march to the state playoffs.

They dispatched Auburn 74-38 at the FCHS gym Wednesday night and the score might have been even more lopsided if coach Alan Cantrell has not pulled his starters in the fourth quarter.

Team sparkplug Brittany Avancini (left) led the team with 18 points but four members of the team finished the evening in double digits.

At 10-2, the Lady Buffs head into a round of district games that should position them for the playoffs.

"We try to get a lot of pressure. Play up-tempo," Buffaloes coach Alan Cantrell told The Roanoke Times. "We try to keep fresh legs in the game. Take [teams] out of their element."

That's one way to put it. Avancini put it best though:

"That's Floyd County basketball."

You said it young lady.
