Floyd County High School’s amazing varsity girls basketball team wrapped up the home season Thursday night with a 73-45 shellacking of Carroll County. They have a perfect 10-0 district record and 21-1 overall and head into the district and regionals as a top seed and the favorite to repeat as state champs.
Britney Avancini (right), playing in her final regular season home game, set a new career scoring record for FCHS girls’ basketball, ending the game with 1,407 points for her years with the team, surpassing the old record by 5 points.
Attendance at this year’s home games appeared to be down, which is a shame because the girls are defending their state title and their games are always exciting. Perhaps it was the economy or the weather or a combination or both.
Carroll comes back to town tonight as the boys wrap up their home season.
See you there.
