The outages included 751 customers in Floyd County as well as the surrounding counties of Roanoke, Franklin and Montgomery along with Henry and Bedford.
An AEP spokesman told Blue Ridge Muse that trees and limbs brought down by high winds knocked out power for many customers and he could not say when power might be restored.
Power officials also warn that additional outages are possible from the high wind warnings remain in effect in Floyd County and surrounding areas until noon Thursday along with wind chill warnings.
Temperature highs are expected only in the 30s Thursday with the winds making it seem even colder.
