It took five games but Floyd County High School’s Buffaloes took a tough semi-final match against Union Thursday night to secure a spot in the state tournament and face Gate City Saturday night for the regional title.

Floyd took the at 15-13 win in the fifth and deciding game at James River High School but, win or lose in the Saturday final, now has a spot in the state final in Richmond.

A hard shot from Haley Avencini gave the Buffs match point in the deciding game.  Riley Underwood had 15 kills and 24 digs.  Avencini tallied six kills apiece. Tiffany Smith piled up 22 digs and Cassie Muncy 20.
