The storms of summer

Some 249 customers of Appalachian Power remained without electricity as of 4:30 a.m. Tuesday as a wave of storms swept through Floyd County Monday night with wind toppling tress, downing power lines and blocking roads throughout the area.

Some 249 customers of Appalachian Power remained without electricity as of 4:30 a.m. Tuesday as a wave of storms swept through Floyd County Monday night with wind toppling tress, downing power lines and blocking roads throughout the area.

Crews were out late clearing roads, including Virginia Rte. 8, and secondary routes and power outages in the county topped more than a thousand at its height.

No injuries were reported but the area faces more storms Tuesday night in a weather pattern that has become a part of the summer season.
