Gonna be a busy one. Got to get Fred and Fragments from Floyd back online before he goes into blog withdrawal. The Floyd County Commonwealth's Attorney's mess, which we thought the Supreme Court settled 10 days ago, is heating up again because Gordon Hannett is a sore loser and I have a backlog of print orders at the studio. As Amy is prone to ask: Just when does this retirement and relaxation thing kick in?

  1. How dare you say my son Gordon Hannett is a sore loser. Do you know anything about him, his life or his background ? Do you know that while he was in college and in the Army Reserves that he was deployed to go to the Persian Gulf War ?
Do you know that he put himself through college and law school to make a good life for himself ? Do you know the character of my son ? Do you know how many peoples lifes have been effected by knowing my son and the good person he is ? Do you know how much involved he is in his community ?
I think you need to do a little more research before you draw a conclusion about someones son. I am very proud of my son and the person he has become. And in no way is he a “sore loser”. And besides what makes you say he is a sore loser ? What is so bad about wanting to put the best person for his job in his place while he is away fighting for “Our Country” ? On top of that, having to deal with being in harms way every minute of his life while he is in Iraq, and still thinking of his position and the people of Floyd County, staying in touch with the acting Common Wealth Attorney , that my son chose after careful consideration, to make sure things are going smoothly while he is away. Don’t you think he has enough right there in Iraq do worry about without people like you saying he is a “sore loser”.
If you want to know anything about my son and his character just ask his family and friends and the people that know him well and then you ask yourself if you think he is still a “sore loser”.

    Evelyn Hannett

  2. I’m well aware of his record. But I’m also aware that he tried to talk the Army Reserve into granting him a waiver so he didn’t have to go on active duty (as was duly noted in the decision by the Supreme Court). The very judge he is waging his legal power struggle with now also wrote a letter supporting his request. He lost that battle as well.

I respect Gordon for serving his country in war, even though he tried to avoid it in this case, but serving in war requires a fulltime commitment. As a taxpayer, I want my taxes to pay a fulltime prosecutor, not an absentee one with a parttime assistant.

I would expect a mother to support her son and you have every reason to be proud of him for serving. But the Supreme Court made its decision and he, as a prosecutor, has sworn to uphold the law. Because he chose to continue what has been a long and bitter fight that has sharply divided the county, I think he is a sore loser for continuing the battle and stand by that opinion.

Keeping time around the world

In a period of my adult, professional, life, I spent many days (and nights) on planes flying around the world. For many of those years,
